Pink 2

Kate

Kate Foley, please let me have your clothes. Yes, she wears the blackest of black tights, she reminds me that white socks are definitely a staple and she has some pretty enviable coats, too. Oh and lets not forget that hair. Go look at the interview that she did for refinery last year for more.

BJORG Jewellery

(photos: Not just a label)

Jewellery brand Bjorg’s 2012 collection is stunning, really romantic and dark. I love the photos for this collection, so quiet and dreamlike. The collections video is also beautiful. There's some more info on the brand over at Not Just A Label and of course you can visit Bjorg's website.

Lisa Kellner

Just wanted to share with you these beautiful Lisa Kellner site sculptures. Love the colours and that juxtaposition between the harsh surroundings and the delicate pieces.

The Makers

So I wanted to talk a bit about this website www.themakersproject.com

that I have had bookmarked for quite a while now. It’s such a beaut. It’s basically a collection of interviews and photos of designers, makers, foodies and general creative people. The photos are lovely and there are a few jewelers on there too.

Natural History

Now that I am finshed with school for the summer I thought I’d make some fun little pieces. One of my favourite museums in London is the natural history museum. This place is AMAZING, it is literally packed with skeletons, stuffed animals, these wasp nests (crazy) and of course the dinosaurs. I love the dinosaur exhibition. It’s great. There’s loads of fossils and skeleton recreations, a moving T-rex and lots of dinosaurs memorabilia.

Anyway I thought I’d make myself a couple of dinosaur necklaces, because well I wanted one and they’re really easy to make. Here’s a quick photo how (I used an Archimedes hand drill, but I’m pretty sure you could just push a drawing pin  in).

All own photos (sorry about the shoddiness of the photos).

Wax Casting

In the second term we did a days tutorial on wax casting. Now this has probably been one of the most valuable things that I have learnt this year. Put simply, it is making something out of wax, and using a process called lost wax casting to have your model produced in metal.

My first attempt turned out like this. A bit bulky, compared to what I am making now, but still a piece that I really like (It’s the left one).

Anyway its safe to say that I am loving wax, it’s really enabled me to translate elements of my drawings that I had struggled with previously and its just really cool to see the little wax models turn into pieces of jewellery.

All own photos.

Change of the site

So, if anyone has been on this site over the past year, they will have realized that it has gone pretty much unused. I’ve been thinking about it recently, just assessing what I wanted to get out of the whole blog thing and I don’t think that when I started I really had much focus. I have since started my university degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing and really want to start documenting what I have been doing. So yeah, hopefully second time around this will last…
